Sisters and Brothers,

The International is in the first stages of gathering photos and other media to celebrate our 125th Anniversary. We will be creating a lot of materials featuring workers and locals across the continent to feature in a social media and video project leading up to our July 18th anniversary.
Do you have a digital archive of photos or videos of your members at work or of milestones at your local? Could the International use these materials for publicity around the IATSE’s 125th Anniversary? Do you have other photos or videos that you would be willing to share for publicity around the 125th Anniversary?

You can send materials to me by email (mcain@iatse.net) or you can upload them directly to this Google Drive folder. Please include any identifying information you have (Local number, city, venue, names of members, date, etc). And if you upload to the Google Drive, please create your own sub-folder with your local number so that we can give proper credit. We want to make sure that your locals are represented, and that you’re able to share these materials with your members.

For 125 years, our union has helped bring entertainment to life. Our history is important to us, as a commemoration, as a learning tool, and as something to share with the world at large. And that's why we're planning something big for our landmark 125th Anniversary Celebration this summer.
Look through your Local's archives and reply here or upload to the Google drive to help us with this exciting project. Thank you for your support with this, and I look forward to working with you to make this project a success!

In Solidarity,
Matthew Cain
Director, Communications Department
IATSE

PS — Many thanks to those of you who have already sent in your photos. Over the next few weeks, we'll turn them into share graphics and other materials that you can use to help us celebrate our 125th Anniversary. We'll be in touch with more information soon!

TodayThe Fight for Working Families Continues

Today, unions continue serve the same purpose for which they were originally founded. CEO and executive compensation is skyrocketing, while the middle class suffers from layoffs, unemployment and stagnant wages.

What do Labor Unions Want?Increasing wages Raising the standard of living, for the working class, Ensuring safe working conditions, Increasing benefits for both workers and their families, Workers Need Fair Treatment Today as Much as Ever

Employers are trying to shed responsibility for providing health insurance, good pension coverage, reasonable work hours and job safety protections. Additionally, companies are making workers' jobs and incomes less secure through downsizing, part-timing, contracting out, and sending jobs off-shore.

As the nature of work changes, working people need the collective voice and bargaining power unions provide to keep employers from making the workplace look as it did in the early nineteenth century.

Labor Unions Can Help Stop History From Repeating Itself

Working conditions at the turn of the 20th century, without worker representation, involved:

Sweatshop conditions, Child labor, Unlivable wages

Today and in the future, labor unions will continue to play an important role our country's work force and the quality of life for working families.

America's working families need the representation, collective power, pride in work and fair treatment in the workplace that they deserve.
